PDF creation

Although I've succeeded in creating Word documents which then can be printed to a pdf driver I wonder if there is a method of creating a pdf file direct from KCML 6. I know how to generate PCL coding but that doesn't seem to help me much further.

I appreciate your help

The system I work on uses VPE; http://www.brothersoft.com/vpe-professi ... 57881.html

There is even a GUI front end, but the system I work on means we have to design in code.

It might be worth a look.

Thanks, that seems to be just what I was looking for. I'll need some time obviously to get the first documents up and running but you'll hear about my findings in a month or so.

I've looked into this application and it certainly is complete enough to cater for all our needs. I have however decided against it in the end as it would require knowledge of yet another wordprocessor and I still haven't gotten rid of all the previous ones.
I now create documents as before using my own - in the eighties written - application or an office application such as word or excel by means of COM. The print is subsequently sent to PDF Creator which stores the PDF in a predefined directory. The resulting file is either mailed or stored in the correct directory.

Thanks again though for your tip.

Hi Ruud, I would be interested in finding out more about your method. Would you be able to share more details?

Hello Russell and co-readers,

I've installed PDFCreator. The PDF printer then will be available as one of your printdevices. Start the program to get to the the options. In the subscreen for autosave you can set stuff such as documentname.
Next you print the output to the chosen driver
From Excel for instance you use worksheet.printout("ActivePrinter" = \\servername\Printername) (or workbook if you want to print all tabs)

The output is then immediately created in the chosen directory. As this method doesn't always create a unique name, I use ki_dir to find the latest addition to the directory. That file is then renamed and relocated to the place I want it to be where it can be retrieved for further processing.

I will post a subroutine for sending mail with attachments and embedded pictures in the appropriate section of this forum.
